About Cheryl

 Cheryl Birch

Author, Poet, Blogger

Life is truly a journey. Never did I dream I would be a published author.

My love for books started at age ten when the library’s “book-mobile” parked in my neighborhood. Sci-fi and fantasy swept me away from the boredom of Minnesota winters and too many rainy mosquito summers. Challenging weather is part of the reason my "high school sweetheart" husband and I decided to move to California.  We now live in the Central Valley among the almond and peach trees along with our two rescue cats. My 14-pound gray kitty loves to read books with me and he’s my writing buddy. The other one is too snobbish to join in.

When I was sixteen, I wrote my first poem Love is a Red Convertible and a short story Thirteen Steps. Both were published in an all-school competition. Fancying myself a poet, I started writing inspirational and garden centric poetry years ago. Sitting in my garden chair, watching the sky, listening to the sounds of nature and my neighborhood, admiring a flower or a bird all became poems. My favorites are The Wind from 2013, Season of Heavenly Treasure from 2018, Sunrise from 2019, and two newer ones Joy Drenches and Hummingbird Happiness.

Before discovery of my true calling—a fulltime writing career—I did a plethora of things including retail management, small business owner, District Director for a California State Senator, Founder and President of a nonprofit corporation, and ten years as a local Pastor/Ministry Leader. However, being a volunteer, helping others succeed, especially children, has been the heartbeat of my life.

Now, sharing my God inspired poems and stories has become my passion and an exciting and wonderful way of blessing others.

Besides being an author, poet, and blogger...

-I’m a die-hard Trekkie, except the newer movies

-Without hot tea—dollop of honey and milk added—my day falls apart

-Cats are tiny people in furry, tail-decorated, suits and I greet them when they enter a room

-I love car trips

-I really enjoy BattleBots and Jeopardy, two sides of my personality I guess

-For me, an outfit is not complete without a scarf, earrings, watch, and bracelet

-I went para-sailing (3 times) despite the terror I might slam into the ground on the way down

-Tiramisu is my all-time favorite dessert, next to homemade apple pie

-I’m surrounded daily by teddy bears, yes really.

-As a kid, I wanted to be an artist and ice skate like an Olympian--so so on the art and forget skating

-Spending time in prayer is the best way to begin and end a day

If you read all this, you found out a lot about me. It would be great to hear about you! Jump over to my Contact page and let me and my writing buddy know you stopped by.
